Harry Kane has opened the door to the possibility of playing in La Liga before the end of his career, revealing that there were conversations about a move to Spain in the past while expressing his admiration for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.
The Bayern Munich and England striker stopped well short of suggesting that he intends to leave Germany.
In fact, Kane made it clear that he remains extremely happy at Bayern, where discussions over a new contract are already underway.
But when asked whether Spain could eventually become part of his career, the 33-year-old refused to close the door.
Speaking in a new interview with MARCA, Kane confirmed that there had been conversations about playing in La Liga previously and said that in football he would never completely rule anything out.
For a player whose career has already taken him from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich, it immediately raises an intriguing question.
Could Spain eventually become Kane's final major European challenge?
Harry Kane Reveals Previous La Liga Conversations
Kane spent the majority of his career in England before leaving Tottenham for Bayern Munich in August 2023.
But Spain could apparently have been another destination.
Asked whether he could have played in La Liga earlier in his career, Kane revealed that there had been conversations, although he stressed they never developed into clear opportunities.
He also expressed enormous respect for three of Spain's biggest clubs — Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid — while recalling growing up watching Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Most importantly, Kane did not completely close the door on playing in Spain in the future.
That comment will inevitably generate attention around Barcelona and Real Madrid, but it should not be mistaken for Kane announcing plans to leave Bayern.
His current situation suggests almost the opposite.
Bayern Munich Want Kane to Stay
Kane's existing Bayern contract runs until June 30, 2027, meaning he has entered the final season of the four-year agreement he signed after leaving Tottenham.
Bayern are already trying to change that.
Negotiations over an extension have begun, and Kane confirmed in August that the initial discussions had been positive.
He also publicly stated that he would like to remain at Bayern long term.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has similarly expressed confidence that an extension can be agreed, saying recently that Kane appears settled in Munich and that he sees little reason why the partnership should not continue.
That context matters.
Kane saying he would never rule out La Liga is very different from Kane actively pushing for a transfer.
At the moment, the stronger evidence points toward Bayern and Kane working on extending their relationship.
Why Barcelona Would Be an Intriguing Fit
Barcelona naturally stand out whenever an elite centre-forward discusses La Liga.
Kane's intelligence, finishing ability and link-up play would appear compatible with a possession-dominant team filled with technically gifted attackers.
Hansi Flick's Barcelona are already producing extraordinary attacking numbers this season.

Adding a striker with Kane's finishing and creativity to that type of system would be fascinating.
But there is currently no indication that Kane has agreed to join Barcelona, and his comments should not be interpreted that way.
In fact, MARCA reported earlier this summer that Barcelona did not consider signing Kane a feasible option at that stage.
For now, Barcelona belong in the conversation because Kane himself specifically praised the club — not because a transfer has been agreed.
What About Real Madrid?
Real Madrid would present a different question.
Kane described Madrid as one of the world's biggest clubs, but any potential move would have to make sense within a squad already built around elite attacking talent.
The sporting circumstances would therefore matter just as much as Kane's willingness to experience Spanish football.
At 33, Kane is also at a stage where any future transfer would likely be determined by timing.
If he signs a long-term Bayern extension, the possibility of playing for Madrid or Barcelona could become significantly more remote.
If negotiations eventually stall, however, the conversation changes.
That is why his contract situation is arguably more important than today's transfer speculation.
Atlético Madrid Should Not Be Ignored
One interesting part of Kane's interview was that he did not limit his praise to Barcelona and Real Madrid.
He specifically included Atlético Madrid among the Spanish clubs he respects.
Atlético would offer a very different experience.
Kane has spent much of his career as both a goalscorer and a player capable of dropping into deeper positions to connect midfield and attack.
His physical presence and tactical intelligence could theoretically translate well to Spanish football.
But again, there is no evidence of an agreement or advanced negotiation with Atlético.
For now, Kane is discussing admiration and possibilities rather than announcing his next destination.
Kane Is Coming Off the Best Season of His Career
Perhaps the biggest reason this story matters is that Kane is not talking about Spain while approaching the end of his career as a declining striker.
He is doing it after producing one of the greatest individual goalscoring seasons of the modern era.
Kane scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and England during 2025/26.
Reuters notes that only Lionel Messi's 82 goals in 2011/12 stand above Kane's total among comparable single-season tallies highlighted around his achievement. Kane himself described 2025/26 as comfortably the best season of his career.
His Bayern career numbers are equally remarkable.
By late August, Kane had reached 146 goals in 149 competitive appearances for the German champions, while winning two Bundesliga titles, the DFB Cup, two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups and two European Golden Shoes.
Those numbers explain why Bayern are so eager to keep him.
The Ballon d'Or Question
Kane's extraordinary season has also placed him firmly in the conversation surrounding the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
The England captain is among the major contenders alongside players including Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé.

Kane, however, appears reluctant to campaign publicly for the award.
He told MARCA that he has never enjoyed talking too much about his own achievements, although he acknowledged that scoring 73 goals speaks for itself.
The 2026 Ballon d'Or winner is scheduled to be announced on October 26, making the coming weeks particularly significant.
Bayern or La Liga: What Happens Next?
The most likely immediate development is not a transfer.
It is another round of contract negotiations.
Kane has publicly said he wants to remain at Bayern long term, while Bayern's leadership has repeatedly expressed confidence about extending his contract.
That makes an imminent Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atlético move difficult to support based on the information currently available.
But Kane has also deliberately avoided shutting the door forever.
And that is what makes his comments interesting.
He has already conquered English football's individual goalscoring records, moved to Germany, won major trophies and produced the most prolific season of his career.
Spain would represent something new.
Whether that opportunity ever becomes realistic could depend heavily on the contract Kane signs next.
Beyond the Final Whistle, Harry Kane's comments should not be interpreted as a transfer request, but they leave an intriguing possibility hanging over the final years of one of this generation's greatest strikers. Bayern Munich remain firmly in control of the present. Whether Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid ever become part of Kane's future is a question that may depend on what happens at the negotiating table in Munich.
