The first heavyweight London derby of the new Premier League season has arrived.
Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, September 6, with both clubs entering the game having won their opening two league matches.
Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. UK time, and the fixture will be shown live on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.
But this is about much more than three early-season points.
It is the first Premier League managerial meeting between Mikel Arteta and Xabi Alonso — two childhood friends who now find themselves trying to lead rival London clubs toward the Premier League title.

Arsenal’s Perfect Start Faces Its Biggest Test
Arsenal have started their title defence exactly as Arteta would have wanted.
The Gunners have won their opening two Premier League matches, including a hard-fought 1–0 victory away at Aston Villa last time out.
Their defensive strength remains one of their biggest weapons.
But questions remain about Arsenal’s attacking depth following the summer transfer window.
Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli were among the attacking players who departed, while Christos Tzolis was the only new winger added.
Arteta has publicly defended Arsenal’s transfer business and insists he remains confident in the attacking options available to him.

Perhaps the most intriguing storyline will be on the touchline.
Arteta and Alonso have known each other since childhood in Spain’s Basque Country.
Now they meet as managers of two clubs with genuine Premier League ambitions.
Arteta described their relationship ahead of the game and praised the work Alonso has done during his managerial career.
Friendship, however, disappears for 90 minutes.

Can Chelsea End Their Emirates Drought?
Recent history favours Arsenal.
Chelsea have not won a Premier League match at the Emirates since August 2021, when Romelu Lukaku and Reece James scored in a 2–0 victory.
That is a significant drought for a club of Chelsea’s stature.
Arsenal have also become increasingly difficult to beat in London derbies under Arteta.
But this Chelsea side arrives with a new manager, renewed confidence and an opportunity to make an early statement.
Winning at the home of the defending champions would immediately strengthen the argument that Alonso’s team can become genuine title contenders.
Arsenal’s Transfer Gamble Comes Under the Spotlight
This match also arrives at an interesting moment for Arsenal.
The transfer window has closed, and Arteta now has to prove that the squad he kept is deep enough to defend the Premier League title.
The departures of several attackers have generated debate, particularly after Arsenal failed to complete another major attacking signing before the deadline.
Arteta has rejected suggestions that his squad is too light and pointed to the quality already available to him.
Sunday represents the perfect opportunity to prove his point.
If Arsenal’s attack delivers against Chelsea, some of those transfer-window concerns will quieten.
If they struggle to create chances, however, the debate will only become louder.

Bukayo Saka remains Arsenal’s biggest attacking threat.
Chelsea know that allowing him repeated one-on-one situations around the right side of the penalty area is dangerous.
For Chelsea, Cole Palmer will again be central to their attacking threat.
His movement between midfield and attack can create difficult decisions for Arsenal’s defenders: step forward and leave space behind, or sit deeper and allow him time on the ball.
There will be quality everywhere on the pitch, but those two players possess the ability to change the game with one moment.
Prediction: Arsenal 2–1 Chelsea
This should be Arsenal’s most difficult Premier League game of the season so far.
Chelsea have enough attacking quality to score at the Emirates, and Alonso’s team should create opportunities.
But Arsenal’s home advantage and greater defensive stability could make the difference.
I expect Chelsea to cause problems — potentially even score first — but Arsenal’s ability to control the decisive periods of the match gives the champions a slight edge.
Prediction: Arsenal 2–1 Chelsea.
Final Whistle
Arsenal against Chelsea rarely needs additional significance, but Sunday’s meeting has plenty.
Two perfect league starts.
Two title ambitions.
Two childhood friends facing each other from opposing technical areas.
And two teams looking for the first major statement of their Premier League campaigns.
For Arsenal, victory would reinforce the belief that Arteta’s champions remain the team everyone else must catch.
For Chelsea, winning at the Emirates would send an entirely different message: Xabi Alonso’s project may already be ready to challenge England’s best.
Beyond the Final Whistle, Sunday’s derby is about more than London bragging rights — it is the first opportunity for Arsenal or Chelsea to show that their perfect start could become something much bigger.
