The Champions League draw 2026/27 is complete, and the five Premier League representatives now know the eight opponents standing between them and the knockout stages.
Arsenal received arguably the most eye-catching draw, with Real Madrid coming to North London and a difficult trip to Bayern Munich among their eight matches.
Manchester City’s new era will receive an equally serious European examination. City host defending champions Paris Saint-Germain and travel to Barcelona, while Manchester United welcome Bayern Munich back to Old Trafford.
Liverpool appear to have received the most manageable draw of the five English clubs, while Aston Villa face a demanding schedule featuring Barcelona, PSG and Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal Handed Real Madrid and Bayern Munich
Arsenal’s road back to the latter stages will not be easy.
The Gunners will face:
Home: Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lille, Sabah
Away: Bayern Munich, Real Betis, Napoli, Slavia Prague
The headline fixture is unquestionably Arsenal vs Real Madrid.
Real Madrid remain synonymous with Champions League success, while travelling to Bayern is another significant challenge. A trip to Serie A champions Napoli adds further difficulty.
But Arsenal will believe they are capable of competing with anyone after reaching last season’s final.
Interestingly, Real Madrid have never beaten Arsenal in their four previous Champions League meetings.

Manchester City Get Barcelona and PSG

The trip to Barcelona immediately stands out.
City will come up against former midfielder Rodri following his summer move to the Spanish champions, adding another storyline to an already enormous European fixture.
PSG visiting the Etihad could be equally significant.
The defending European champions will provide one of the strongest tests of City’s new era.

Manchester United Welcome Bayern to Old Trafford
Manchester United’s return to the Champions League has produced another famous reunion.
United face:
Home: Bayern Munich, Roma, RB Leipzig, Sabah
Away: Atlético Madrid, Sporting CP, Villarreal, Como
Bayern at Old Trafford immediately brings memories of one of the most famous matches in Manchester United’s history — the dramatic 1999 Champions League final.
But nostalgia will not make this draw easier.
An away match against Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid could be particularly demanding, while trips to Sporting and Villarreal add further difficulty.
United will need to collect maximum points from the more favorable fixtures if they want to avoid unnecessary pressure later in the league phase.
Liverpool Could Be the Biggest English Winners
Liverpool’s draw looks more favorable on paper.
Their eight opponents are:
Home: Atlético Madrid, Porto, Villarreal, Lens
Away: Inter Milan, Club Brugge, Fenerbahçe, LASK
The trip to Inter is clearly the biggest challenge.
Atlético at Anfield should also be a fascinating tactical battle.
But compared with Arsenal facing Real Madrid and Bayern, or City drawing Barcelona and PSG, Liverpool appear to have avoided the very hardest combination.
The Premier League’s own assessment described Liverpool as having perhaps the most favorable draw among the English representatives.
That doesn’t guarantee anything.
Trips to Istanbul and Milan are rarely straightforward, but Liverpool should look at this schedule and believe a top-eight finish is achievable.
Aston Villa Face a Brutal European Test
Aston Villa’s opponents might concern Unai Emery most.
Villa face:
Home: PSG, Borussia Dortmund, Fenerbahçe, Viking
Away: Barcelona, Club Brugge, Galatasaray, Slavia Prague
Barcelona away.
PSG at Villa Park.
Dortmund at Villa Park.
And Galatasaray away.
That is an extremely demanding collection of fixtures.
Yet Villa have one significant advantage: Unai Emery knows European competition extraordinarily well.
The atmosphere at Villa Park for PSG and Dortmund should also make those matches among the most intriguing involving English clubs this season.
Why Finishing in the Top Eight Matters
Every team plays eight league-phase matches — four home and four away.
But the objective isn’t merely to survive.
The teams finishing first through eighth advance directly to the Champions League round of 16.
Teams finishing ninth through 24th must contest a two-legged knockout playoff, while those finishing 25th or lower are eliminated from Europe.
That makes every point valuable.
One bad result against a supposedly weaker opponent could eventually mean playing two additional knockout matches in February.
The league phase begins September 8–10, with the eighth and final matchday scheduled for January 27, 2027.
Who Got the Best and Worst Draw?
On paper, Liverpool look like England’s biggest winners.
Inter and Atlético are serious opponents, but Liverpool avoided Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and PSG.
Arsenal are at the opposite end.
Real Madrid, Bayern, Dortmund and Napoli provide four significant tests, although Arteta’s side should still expect to progress.
Manchester City sit somewhere between the two. Barcelona and PSG are intimidating, but several of their other fixtures look considerably more manageable.
Manchester United have a challenging but balanced schedule.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, may have received the most uncomfortable combination because of both the quality of their opponents and some difficult away environments.
Ultimately, though, the Champions League rarely follows predictions.
And that’s precisely why this draw has given us so much to look forward to.
