Man City are 6-from-6 and top, Arsenal are three points behind, but the 115 charges verdict could blow the title race wide open.

Erling Haaland in Manchester City kit

Six games in, the Premier League title race is already a two-horse sprint — but with a points deduction looming over the leaders, nothing is certain.

Manchester City sit top with a perfect 18 points from six matches after their ruthless 3-0 demolition of Liverpool at Anfield. Defending champions Arsenal are three points behind in second, while Brighton — the league's top scorers — lurk in third. But the shadow of the 115 charges hangs over everything.

City perfect — but for how long?

Enzo Maresca's side have been flawless. Six wins, 16 goals scored, and a statement victory at Anfield where Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki all scored against ten-man Liverpool. They are, in a footballing sense, sitting pretty.

Yet the guilty verdict on 115 charges of financial rule breaches changes everything. A points deduction is expected in January at the latest — and it is, as Sports Mole notes, "incomprehensible that Maresca's side will be allowed to lift the top-flight title this term." Every point they bank now may prove academic.

Arsenal: the nearly men no more?

Mikel Arteta's champions have 15 points from six games — the only blemish a defeat before the international break. They responded with a 2-1 comeback win over Leeds at the Emirates, with Riccardo Calafiori and substitute Bruno Guimarães turning the game around.

Crucially, the Opta supercomputer makes Arsenal favourites: a 43.97% chance of retaining the title compared to City's 39.8%. The model, which uses betting market odds and power rankings, has actually increased the Gunners' chances since the start of the season. If City are docked points, Arsenal will be perfectly placed.

Brighton: the dark horses

Don't sleep on Brighton. The Seagulls are third with 13 points and are the league's highest scorers with 18 goals. Their 3-0 thrashing of Arsenal before the break was no fluke — this is a side playing fearless, attacking football.

Opta gives them just a 4.2% title chance, but they are the great entertainers of this season and could play kingmaker in the run-in.

The chasing pack

Brentford and Chelsea both sit on 10 points, with the Blues' 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth showing their potential. Liverpool, on 9 points after the Anfield humbling, look well off the pace — though the supercomputer still gives them a 5.7% shot. Manchester United (6 points) and Tottenham (3 points) are already in crisis.

According to NBC Sports' latest standings, the table is taking shape — but January's verdict could redraw it entirely.

What happens next?

The next month is critical. If City keep winning, the pressure on Arsenal to stay in touch intensifies. But every City victory comes with an asterisk until the punishment is confirmed. A double-digit points deduction would blow the race wide open — potentially handing Arsenal, Brighton, or even Chelsea a path to glory.

Beyond the Final Whistle verdict: This is the strangest title race in Premier League history — a team winning every week while everyone waits to find out if it even counts. Arsenal are the smart money, but Brighton's fearlessness makes them the story. Buckle up.

Will City's points deduction hand Arsenal the title, or can anyone catch them anyway? Let us know in the comments.
