Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly made a "clear" decision over his Arsenal future, telling the club he will not push for a January exit and instead wants to fight for his place under Mikel Arteta, despite finding himself behind Kai Havertz in the pecking order.

The Sweden international has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks, starting just two matches so far this season and playing only 29 minutes of Premier League football. That lack of action has inevitably fuelled speculation linking him with a move away, with some reports suggesting January or next summer could see the striker depart the Emirates.

However, according to Football Insider, Gyokeres has made his position plain to the Gunners hierarchy: he wants to prove himself in north London rather than look for an escape route.

Clear Decision: Gyokeres Wants To Stay

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, speaking as a source for Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old remains determined to make the £64million move work. Brown acknowledged it has been a frustrating period for a player who arrived as one of Europe's most lethal finishers, but argued Gyokeres will want to prove people wrong and show he can thrive in Arteta's system.

The forward himself broke his silence while on international duty, insisting he is "extremely happy" at the club. "For me, staying was a given. I’m extremely happy at the club," he said. "It’s clear that I want to play football as much as possible. Hopefully that will come, too."

Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon last summer after scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese giants, found the net 21 times in his debut season as the Gunners won the Premier League. His form for Sweden has also remained sharp — he has scored in successive Nations League outings, continuing his remarkable scoring streak for his country.

Havertz Injury Could Open The Door

There may yet be an opportunity for the Swede to force his way back into Arteta's plans sooner rather than later. Havertz suffered an injury while on international duty with Germany, potentially handing Gyokeres the start he has been desperate for when the Premier League resumes.

Arsenal host Leeds United at the Emirates on Saturday, and with the squad stretched by the international break, Arteta may have little choice but to lean on his £64million striker. It is precisely the kind of stage Gyokeres needs to remind supporters why Arsenal fought so hard to sign him.

The German's absence also arrives at a moment when questions have been asked about Arsenal's use of the Sweden striker. Even when the Gunners have been dominant, Gyokeres has often watched on from the bench, a strange sight for a player of his pedigree.

What It Means For Arsenal

The club's stance has long been that Gyokeres is not for sale, and his own commitment strengthens that position. Arsenal closed the door on a summer exit, though reports in Italy suggest Juventus and AC Milan remain admirers and that the Gunners would demand at least £60million for any future sale. A January departure now looks unlikely, with the player himself driving the decision to stay.

For Arteta, keeping a motivated Gyokeres firing could prove decisive across a long season. The Spaniard has recently committed his own future to the club, and a settled squad with genuine competition for places is exactly what he needs to keep Arsenal at the top.

Beyond the Final Whistle: Gyokeres has made his choice clear — he is not giving up on Arsenal. With Havertz sidelined and a busy run of fixtures ahead, the coming weeks will show whether that faith is repaid. Can the Sweden striker fire himself back into Arteta's plans?
